Today, most players using wood bats have previously used aluminum bats. When transitioning to wood there are several factors to consider and as a new use of wood education is key.
Weight Distribution
First you must keep in mind that aluminum bats are hollow and wood bats are solid. This means that even if your wood bat is a minus 3 (length to weight ratio) it will feel heavier than an aluminum bat that is also a minus 3. For this reason most players choosing a wood bat will need to select a model that is balanced.
An evenly balanced bat will feel lighter and be easier to control than an end loaded bat.
Balance
The balance of a wood bat is determined by two factors: barrel size and handle diameter.
Most large barrel wood bats tend to be very end loaded as most of the weight is out in the barrel. This causes the bat to feel heavy/end-loaded. Medium to smaller barrel wood bats tend to be more balanced.
Handle diameter will also play a big part in the balance of a wood bat. Bats with thicker handle diameters have more weight displaced throughout the handle of the bat. Taking this weight out of the barrel and shifting it toward the handle will make the bat feel lighter and more balanced.
Barrel Control
Large barrel bats typically have thin handles and therefore requires experienced bat control with using wood. These models are more likely to break on a miss hit than on a balanced model or a model with a thicker handle.

1. TATER-X12 PRO
Our most popular X model based off its comfort at the handle and compact barrel. The X12 experiences a lot of barrel whip through the zone and features one of the most popular handles our Pros use.
The Tater-X12 model is the ultimate contact hitter's wood bat. Ideally made out of maple, this bat features a unique bell knob that's slightly flared and rounded on the end. This bat is designed to resemble the same characteristics as the Francisco Lindor custom game model.
The thin handle and medium barrel provide the balance and consistency contact hitters need from their baseball bat.
2. TATER-X4 PRO
The Tater-X4 is based on the Acuña game model. We have modified the barrel to make it one of the most balanced bats in our arsenal. The sharp flare at the bottom gives players a comfortable knob that almost hugs the bottom hand.
3. TATER-X6 PRO
The Tater-X6 has an end-loaded feel and designed for a lot of barrel whip. A popular model for gap and power hitters. Barrel packed for damage.
A great option for High School baseball players looking to take their game to the next level.
4. TATER-271 PRO
The Tater-271 model is perhaps the most consistently popular bat in the big leagues since its introduction in the early 1970s. For over three decades, the classic flared knob and balance has been preferred by power and contact hitters alike.
The Tater-271 has a faster transition from the taper to the barrel of the bat making it feel very balanced.
5. TATER-XL5 PRO (AP5 Model)
Same specs as our Tater-5 wood bat model, but with an elongated barrel for guys looking for more room to work with and a more end-loaded feel. This wood bat is designed for power with a large, explosive barrel primed for some heavy mashing. This particular model has become one of our most popular models amongst pro players in the minors and majors. Most notably used by Gregory Polanco and Yan Gomes.
